Garage Door Rollers – Choose the Right Roller for a Smoother, Quieter Door
Garage door rollers play a crucial role in how smoothly and quietly your door operates. The right roller reduces noise, ensures proper balance, and extends the life of your garage door system. We carry a wide selection of plastic, steel, and nylon rollers for both residential and commercial overhead doors.
Most standard garage doors use 2” rollers, while larger commercial doors may use 3” rollers. (Note: actual roller diameters are typically about ¼” smaller than the listed size.) Nearly all modern garage door rollers have a 7/16” shaft diameter, making replacements easier and more compatible with today’s hardware.
While the roller material affects noise and durability, the number of ball bearings inside the roller also plays a big part in performance. More bearings generally mean smoother operation, reduced noise, and a longer lifespan — though they also slightly increase cost.
