Torsion Garage door springs are an essential part to any Garage, for creating the Torque to open and close the Garage. It is highly likely over the lifetime of any garage doors the Torsion springs will need to be replaced. If the garage door you are repairing has two torsion springs it is best practice to replace both with same size springs. Typically springs wear over the lifetime of the garage and depending on the rating of the spring installed the number of cycles can vary for the lifetime of the spring, so when one spring gives out due to wear, it is likely that the opposite spring will soon need to be replaced as well.
Torsion springs vary in size, so if you do not know Manufacturer part number for the spring, this can be measured, but when it is unwound, so it is so called in relaxed position. When replacing garage door torsion springs they need to be wound again, according to the height and weight of your door for proper operation. This will ensure you have enough torque to open and close your garage.
