These 1/2" diameter × 18" garage door winding bars are designed for winding and unwinding compatible residential torsion springs. The 18-inch length provides useful leverage and working clearance, while the 1/2-inch diameter fits many common residential torsion-spring winding cones.
Why Use Proper Winding Bars? Torsion springs store substantial mechanical energy. Properly sized winding bars are designed to seat securely in the winding-cone holes and provide controlled leverage while spring tension is being applied or released. Screwdrivers, rebar, socket extensions, and other improvised tools should not be substituted.

Why Two Bars Are Required: Standard torsion spring winding is performed by alternating between two bars inserted into the winding cone. A pair allows one bar to control spring tension while the second bar is repositioned for the next adjustment.
Compatibility: The 1/2" × 18" size is commonly used with residential torsion springs, including many systems using 1-3/4", 2", and 2-1/4" inside-diameter springs. Compatibility is determined by the winding-cone hole size, not the spring diameter alone.
Not for EZ-Set or Similar Proprietary Winders: These bars are intended for compatible conventional torsion spring winding cones. Systems such as Clopay EZ-Set use a different winding method and may require system-specific tools or procedures.
