Clopay EZ-Set Right Winding Unit for EZ-Set Spring System
Genuine OEM replacement winding mechanism for the right side of compatible Clopay, Ideal Door, and Holmes EZ-Set torsion spring systems.
The Clopay 0122250 EZ-Set Right Winding Unit is a direct replacement component for compatible residential garage doors equipped with the Clopay EZ-Set torsion spring system. It mounts at the end of the spring assembly and provides the controlled mechanism used to add or remove spring tension.
Unlike a conventional torsion system that requires winding bars, the EZ-Set design allows the spring to be tensioned using the approved drill and hex-driver procedure described in the Clopay installation manual. The built-in steel bearing supports the torsion tube and helps the spring assembly rotate smoothly during normal door operation.
Right-Side Application Installs on the right side of the garage door when viewed from inside the garage looking outward.
EZ-Set Tensioning Provides the winding mechanism used to adjust a compatible EZ-Set torsion spring without conventional winding bars.
Steel Bearing Included Integrated steel bearing supports the torsion tube and helps provide smooth, dependable movement.

How to Determine the Correct Side: Stand inside the garage and face outward toward the driveway. This winding unit installs on the right side of the door. The matching left-side winding unit is a separate component and uses a different part number.
What the Winding Unit Does
- The winding unit attaches to the compatible EZ-Set spring cone and torsion tube.
- The approved hex-driver connection is rotated according to the EZ-Set installation instructions.
- The internal winding mechanism adds or removes spring tension in controlled increments.
- The steel bearing supports the torsion tube as the door moves.
- The correctly tensioned spring counterbalances the garage door during opening and closing.
EZ-Set Springs Only: This winding unit must be used with a compatible gapped EZ-Set torsion spring. It is not designed for an ordinary torsion spring. Attempting to use it with a standard, non-gapped spring can damage or break the winding mechanism.
Not for Conventional Torsion Systems: This component does not fit conventional torsion systems that use a solid or keyed shaft, standard winding cones, cable drums, and winding bars. It is also not compatible with extension spring systems or Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster assemblies.
Winding Tool Requirement: Compatible EZ-Set systems are commonly adjusted using a drill with the specified 7/16-inch hex driver. Follow the current Clopay manual for the required tool, drill direction, number of turns, spring identification, and final balance test.
Inspect the Spring Before Replacement: A broken winding unit may indicate that the wrong spring was installed, the spring is not a genuine gapped EZ-Set spring, the unit was wound in the wrong direction, or the door was improperly balanced. Correct the underlying cause before installing the replacement unit.
Compatibility Notice
Verify the original part number, right-side position, EZ-Set spring type, spring gap, torsion-tube diameter, winding cone, end-bracket configuration, cable-drum arrangement, door weight, spring size, and existing hardware before ordering. Matching only the Clopay brand does not confirm compatibility.
Additional Parts Not Included: EZ-Set torsion spring, winding cone, torsion tube, cable drum, lift cable, end bracket, tube retainer, fasteners, drill, and hex driver are sold separately unless specifically stated.
Extreme-Tension Safety Warning: Garage door torsion springs store substantial mechanical energy and can cause severe injury or death if handled incorrectly. Close and secure the door, disconnect the opener, and completely release spring tension according to the current Clopay EZ-Set manual before removing the winding unit. Never remove the unit while the spring is wound. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
