Do Not Select by Color Alone: Gold C is a helpful identification code, but it does not independently confirm the correct replacement spring. Verify the .250-inch wire size, inside diameter, gapped coil length, winding direction, installation side, original part number, number of springs, and garage door weight.
EZ-Set Systems Only: This specially gapped spring is designed for a compatible Clopay EZ-Set winding system. It is not a conventional torsion spring and must not be installed with standard winding cones, conventional winding bars, keyed torsion shafts, extension spring hardware, or Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster components.
Why the Coil Gaps Matter: EZ-Set springs are manufactured with deliberate spacing between the coils. This gapped design allows the spring to operate with the dedicated EZ-Set winding mechanism. A standard tightly wound torsion spring can damage the winding unit and must not be substituted.
Single- and Dual-Spring Doors: Some compatible EZ-Set doors use one spring, while others require both a left- and right-wound spring. Maintain the original spring quantity, winding directions, and installation sides unless the spring system has been properly recalculated for the garage door’s weight.
Replacing a Two-Spring System: When a garage door uses two springs of similar age and one fails, replacing both springs together is generally recommended. The remaining spring has completed a similar number of operating cycles and may also be near the end of its service life.
Compatibility Notice
Verify the original Clopay part number, Gold C identification, .250-inch wire size, 1-3/4-inch inside diameter, 54-inch gapped coil length, winding direction, installation side, EZ-Set cone style, number of springs, door weight, door height, track configuration, torsion tube, cable drums, winding units, and bearing supports before ordering.
Additional Hardware Not Included: EZ-Set winding units, torsion tube, cable drums, lifting cables, bearing supports, end brackets, tube retainers, mounting fasteners, drill, hex driver, and other hardware are sold separately unless specifically stated.
Extreme-Tension Safety Warning: Garage door torsion springs store substantial mechanical energy and can cause severe injury or death. Close and secure the garage door, disconnect the opener, and completely release spring tension according to the current Clopay EZ-Set instructions before removing a spring, winding unit, cable drum, torsion tube, or bearing support. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
