How the Cable Drums Work
- The bottom lifting cables attach to the lower corners of the garage door.
- Each cable travels upward and seats in the grooves of its corresponding EZ-Set drum.
- As the torsion tube rotates, both drums wind or unwind the cables evenly.
- The spring system counterbalances the door while the drums control cable movement.
- Correct drum alignment and cable tension help the door remain level during operation.
EZ-Set Systems Only: These drums are designed specifically for compatible Clopay and Ideal Door EZ-Set torsion systems. They are not direct replacements for conventional D400-series drums, keyed torsion-shaft drums, extension spring pulleys, or Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster components.
Left and Right Are Not Interchangeable: Each drum has grooves designed for a specific cable-winding direction. Installing a drum on the wrong side can cause incorrect cable tracking, uneven door movement, cable overlap, or cable loss.
Replacing One Drum: Individual drums are available for repairs where only one side is damaged. Inspect the opposite drum, both lifting cables, bottom brackets, torsion tube, winding units, and bearing supports before deciding to replace only one side.
Pair Replacement
The pair option includes one left-hand 0122490 drum and one right-hand 0122491 drum. Replacing both drums together may be appropriate when both components show wear, corrosion, damaged grooves, cable scoring, or mismatched previous repairs.
Lifting Cables Not Included: Garage door lifting cables, bottom brackets, torsion tube, winding units, springs, bearing supports, fasteners, and other EZ-Set components are sold separately unless specifically stated in the selected option.
