Genie Safe-T-Beam Garage Door Opener Safety Sensors
Genuine Genie replacement photo-eye sensors designed to detect obstructions and automatically reverse a closing garage door.
The Genie Safe-T-Beam Safety Sensor Kit creates an invisible infrared beam across the bottom of the garage door opening. When a person, pet, vehicle, or object interrupts the beam while the door is closing, the opener automatically stops and reverses the door.
This replacement kit is designed for most compatible Genie garage door openers manufactured since 1993 that use required Safe-T-Beam sensors. Its self-diagnostic LED system helps identify alignment, wiring, obstruction, interference, and sensor problems.
Obstruction Detection
Uses an invisible infrared beam to detect objects in the path of a closing garage door.
Automatic Door Reversal
Signals the compatible Genie opener to stop and reverse when the safety beam is interrupted.
Self-Diagnostic LEDs
Red and green indicator lights help identify normal operation and common sensor-system problems.

Installation Height: Install the sensors on opposite sides of the garage door opening with the lenses facing each other. Genie specifies positioning the safety beam approximately 5 to 6 inches above the floor.
Older Pigtail-Style Sensors: Some older Genie systems use plug-in pigtail connectors instead of screw terminals. Compatible existing wires may need to be disconnected from the old plugs, separated, stripped, and attached to the screw terminals on the replacement sensors according to Genie’s instructions.
Genie Openers Only: These sensors are designed for compatible Genie garage door openers. They are not universal and are not intended for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Craftsman, Overhead Door, or other opener brands unless specifically approved by the manufacturer.
Known Compatibility Exception: This replacement sensor kit is not compatible with Genie models 2040 or 2040L. Some much older Genie openers manufactured before required safety-beam systems were introduced may also be incompatible.
Compatibility Notice
Verify the Genie opener model, production period, existing sensor type, wiring arrangement, terminal style, mounting location, and required safety-beam system before ordering. Being manufactured by Genie alone does not guarantee compatibility with every older opener.
Safety Warning: Do not bypass, remove, raise, or disable garage door safety sensors. Disconnect electrical power before servicing wiring. After installation, test the reversal system with an obstruction before returning the opener to normal use. The door must reverse immediately when the infrared beam is interrupted during closing.
